What is a parent education session?

Following a significant life change, families are often navigating overwhelming emotions and uncertainty. Many parents and carers find it difficult to know how to talk with their children about death, grief, dying, and end-of-life care. It is common to wonder what to say, how much information to share, or how to best support your child through these conversations.

Parent information sessions provide a supportive space to explore these concerns with your counsellor. Together, we will discuss age-appropriate, evidence-informed communication strategies to help you feel more confident when talking with your child about these difficult topics. Every child and family is unique, and there is no one "right" way to approach these conversations. You know your child best, and the session is tailored to your family's individual needs, values, and circumstances. Your counsellor will work alongside you to develop a plan that feels supportive and right for your family.

What is funeral planning?

Memory Lane also offers funeral preparation sessions for children and their parents or carers. These sessions are designed to help children understand what to expect before attending a funeral, providing them with a safe space to ask questions, express their thoughts and feelings, and prepare for the day ahead. Many families have found these sessions reassuring during an especially difficult time.

As part of the session, children are invited to create their own personalised support pack to take with them to the funeral. This may include comforting items, coping strategies, or meaningful keepsakes to help them feel supported throughout the service.

Sometimes information can be overwhelming, give us a call and we can talk through what support may feel right for you and your family.
